The security situation in the Central Bosnia Canton (SBK) is satisfactory and there is nothing that would indicate that the Croatian President would be endangered, police agencies in BiH said after Zoran Milanovic cancelled his Sunday visit to SBK “due to security reasons.”
Milanovic was supposed to travel to Bosnia and Herzegovina to attend an event marking the 28th anniversary of the humanitarian convoy “White Road for Nova Bila and Bosna Srebrena”.
The decision to cancel the visit was made on the basis of a security assessment by the competent institutions of the Republic of Croatia, the Office of the President said in a statement without disclosing other details.
Spokesperson for the SBK Interior Ministry, Hasan Hodzic, told N1 that the ministry “has timely taken all necessary measures and actions within its competence in order to ensure the movement and stay of the President of Croatia in our area.”
“This, among other things, implies the preparation of the necessary insurance plans as well as the formation of a management staff that would manage all the activities provided for in the said plans. In order for the said security to run smoothly, the engagement of several teams of the basic and criminal police was planned, as well as members of the unit for public order and peace and the unit for specialist support of the MUP SBK,” he said.
Mirsad Vilic, director of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, told Bosnia’s public broadcaster, BHRT, that there is no information that could point toward Milanovic’s security being endangered.
“In recent days, until this morning, we worked with colleagues from the Ministry of Interior of SBK and colleagues from Croatia to ensure the arrival and stay of the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanovic in BiH, and during the preparations, we did not receive any information that would indicate security threats to the President of Croatia during his stay in BiH,” he said.
